A Dream British escape

Annette and Andy Witheridge bought The Salty Monk in 1999, and immediately set to transforming the small, rural hotel into ‘the perfect British escape’ - a commitment which paid off when The Salty Monk was awarded the prestigious Enjoy England ‘Bed & Breakfast of the Year’ award in 2008.

The best of everything

The hotel’s linen and laundry was top of the list of ‘Things to be Improved’ for Andy and Annette. Before 2008, bedlinen had been maintained in-house while towels and tablelinen were managed by a large national provider at a ‘preferential’ rate (a legacy from the hotel’s previous owners and associations).

Annette explains: “To say that the service from our old provider was bad is an understatement - the product itself was of poor quality, the delivery times were inconsistent, and when the linen did arrive it was usually wrong. What made it worse, we were dealt with by a different person every time - being passed from pillar to post with no consistency and no solution in sight.

Keen to find a laundry provider befitting The Salty Monk’s growing reputation, Annette and Andy turned to CLEAN.

Quality and consistency

“As a hotelier, it’s quality and consistency that you look for at the end of the day,” explains Annette. “We want The Salty Monk to live up to its reputation, not just with the more obvious things like food and amenities, but in the little touches like the bed sheet thread count and the fluffiness of the towels. CLEAN's linen samples were so superior that there and then we decided we would go the whole hog and get them to provide everything - the towels, the tablelinen and the bedlinen.”

The Salty Monk upgraded to CLEAN's Egyptian Cotton bedlinen, Oxford-style pillow casing and ultra-thick 600GSM towelling. When Annette and Andy opened a spa facility in April 2010, CLEAN also provided luxurious waffle spa towels to match the Spa room’s colour scheme.

Annette notes that it is not just the superiority of the products that has made CLEANsuch a valuable partner. “They have, over the past two years, shown remarkable devotion to high service levels. If there is a problem - which is rare - they rectify it as quickly as possible, even if it means paying for a same-day courier to make sure we always have linen ready for our guests.
