Hayward Tyler

"We have a highly skilled workforce and it’s our responsibility to show that we care for them. Which is why we decided to partner with CLEAN as our workwear provider."

Suresh Patel (Maintenance Supervisor) - Hayward Tyler

Engineering and industrial manufacturing is one of the many business sectors that CLEAN supports with its workwear services. Hayward Tyler recently choose CLEAN as their UK workwear partner; not only because both companies share the same unique values of integrity, honesty and outstanding attention to detail, but also because a change was needed. Their incumbent supplier was letting them down on a regular basis. Ongoing service issues meant that garments were frequently going missing during the laundry process leaving workers without uniforms; inconsistent and frequent account management changes exaggerated these problems.

Hayward Tyler

From humble beginnings to a global leader

Hayward Tyler was first established by William Russell in 1815 to produce hydraulic presses, water closets and soda water machines. Now, more 200 years later, it specialises in the production of fluid-filled motors and pumps, today the company has a truly global reach with manufacturing and repair facilities in the UK, USA, India, and China. This is Great British engineering at its best, the motors and pumps are used throughout the world in the global energy and chemical industries. A reliable workwear service is vital for Hayward Tyler; this case study explains more about their blossoming relationship with one of the country’s leading workwear rental services.

A responsible employer

A reliable and dependable workwear service is absolutely vital to companies like Hayward Tyler. If their workwear supply fails not only can employees be exposed to unnecessary risks the company can also be legally culpable. Not only did Hayward Tyler want to do the right thing, by ensuring the correct workwear is readily available. But all employers have a duty of care following a change to the law from 6 April 2022, it is the duty of employers to provide suitable PPE for all workers where there is a health and safety risk to the worker in the work they carry out for the employer. The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) defines PPE as ‘all equipment (including clothing affording protection against the weather) which is intended to be worn or held by a person at work and which protects the person against one or more risks to that person’s health or safety, and any addition or accessory designed to meet that objective’.

The Challenge – keeping people safe

Hayward Tyler relies on the expertise of 100+ highly skilled and dedicated employees to produce precision-engineered, performance-critical electric motors and pumps. To operate machinery safely the engineers at Hayward Tyler must to be equipped with the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) workwear that is durable, comfortable and adheres to all the necessary protective standards. The workers need protection from heat and/or flame, electric arc and the products also need protection from electrostatic charges. This is all achieved through the supply of engineers jackets, trousers and coveralls that comply with EN ISO 11612:2015 A1 B1 C1, IEC 61482-2:2009 and EN 1149-5:2018 standards and with High Visibility features. They also use floor protection mats throughout the site and needed to be able to efficiently distribute the uniforms to employees, to ensure the right garments get to the right wearer.

The Solution - High Pressure

Maintenance Manager, Suresh Patel, was tasked with finding the perfect supplier of both workwear and floor protection mats for the company. After initial discussions a CLEAN representative visited their site and assessed the risks workers are exposed to and discussed service options. Driven by their desire to align with a company that could not only deliver on their promises, but also provide attentive customer support, Hayward Tyler partnered with CLEAN as their workwear supplier. Now CLEAN proudly supply Hayward Tyler with a range of engineers boilersuits, coats, trousers, and jackets with a variety of features such as fire retardant or arc protection, in addition to floor protection mats on a regular reliable weekly schedule. All garments are customised with the Hayward Tyler logo and individually labelled with the wearers name. Each week the CLEAN driver provides a personalised service; lifting used floor mats and replacing them by laying freshly laundered mats and performs a locker valet service by filling each locker with clean uniforms. Workwear is arrives in neatly folded packs and is placed directly into the specific employee lockers. Finally the the used garments are placed within the supplied dirty garment bulk collectors. These are emptied and the garments are returned to CLEAN to be laundered or repaired if required.

Onboarding the right way

Suresh also sought assurances there would be a smooth transition away from the pervious supplier. At CLEAN our regional sales people work in partnership with a dedicated onboarding and installation team to achieve this. They are on hand during fitting and measuring appointments with the installation team, before introducing our dedicated account management team. Our account managers work with customers to take care of any unforeseen circumstances that might need a little more attention. Throughout the process customers are kept up to date with regular updates and communication.

The Result - A bright future

Hayward Tyler employees are now kitted out in smart robust uniforms that keep them protected from workplace hazards and the management team are safe in the knowledge they have a reliable workwear partner. Detailed reporting and full traceability of the garments through the laundry process backed by a ISO9001 certified quality management system have added further confidence. The symbiotic relationship within the operations of Hayward Tyler is second to none – like all successful companies each individual plays unique role to drive the company forward while working together as a team.
