Sean’s Story - From a Van Driver to Senior Driver and Driving Assessor

Josh Drummond - Production Manager
Josh first started working for CLEAN in 2013 as a Production Operator, feeding linen into the ironer. Through hard work and determination, he was moved to the towel folder and trained to work in the wash house. After a year of working for CLEAN, he was promoted to Production Supervisor where his role was to supervise production, help wherever he could, report any accidents or machinery malfunctions to the engineers. After three years of being production supervisor, he was promoted to Production Manager.

In this video we guide you through our ISO 9001 Quality Management Certified laundry process at our Cheltenham laundry where the uniforms are scanned and tracked throughout the process. Firstly, all the uniforms returned by our customers are scanned to register that they have been returned to the laundry at this stage they are also sorted, checked for any damage that might need repair and any foreign objects are removed. The next stage is washing where full thermal disinfection is carried out to remove any dirt, bacteria or viruses that could be present, before transferal to our high care facility. This is where a second scan and quality check takes place before the finishing process where drying and further thermal disinfection take place. Any damage that has been reported, either by customers before being returned to the laundry or identified at the laundry, undergoes stringent inspection. Depending upon the findings of the inspection, garments are either repaired, damaged labels replaced or garments are removed and replaced with new garments.

Claire’s Story - from Administrator to Operations Manager
Claire started working for CLEAN in as a Site Administrator in 2014. Her first role was to support the management team and provide admin support to ensure the smooth running of the laundry site. In this role Claire assisted with payroll administration, ensuring people got paid correctly and on time, supporting the human resources and being a point of contact for customer service queries, liaising with the operations and transport teams and the laundry and the customer service centre. A health and safety culture and ensuring colleagues, customers and contractors return home safely to their families at the end of every working day is part of the company ethos at CLEAN.

A Statement about the Fire at our Ross-on-Wye Laundry
On 2nd May 2022 a fire broke out at our laundry site in Netherton Road, Ross-on-Wye. Firstly, and most importantly, nobody was injured in the fire, and it has since been extinguished by the Hereford and Worcester Fire Service, helped by crews from the south Wales fire authorities. Currently the cause and origin investigation related to the fire is ongoing. CLEAN will be working with all the appropriate authorities to ensure that any lessons are learned, and any risks further reduced in the future.

CLEAN reduces vehicle emissions using innovative solar technology
CLEAN has partnered with TRAILAR, fuel and emission reduction technology experts to reduce the CO2 emissions of its vehicle fleet. The system harnesses free, clean energy from the sun, to power electrical ancillary equipment including the tail-lifts that are in frequent use to load and off load laundry cages. Solar mats fitted to the rooves of our delivery vehicles have significantly reduced the need to create electrical energy by the burning of diesel fuel and are therefore, saving fuel, CO2 and maintenance costs. The adoption of the technology has resulted in a 5.5% reduction in fuel usage that equates to a 1,475kg CO2 saving per vehicle each year.

CLEAN are presented with our third consecutive RoSPA award
Our Group Health & Safety and Environmental Manager Stewart MacDonnell and our Chief Operating Officer Sarah Cooper were presented with the gold award at the prestigious ceremony held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, on Tuesday, July 15th. Dating back to 1956, the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards scheme is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK. The scheme does not just look at accident records, but also entrants' overarching health and safety management systems, including important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement. We are delighted to announce CLEAN is among the winners in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2015. The Gold award in the prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) will be presented during a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre, on July 14, 2015. As the UK’s family safety charity, RoSPA’s mission to save lives and reduce injuries covers all ages and stages of life. In support of this mission, the RoSPA Awards, which date back 59 years, recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work. Through the scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement. David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “The RoSPA Awards encourage improvement in occupational health and safety management. Pool Linen Services offer extensive benefits to the hotel sector
The Textile Service Association (TSA) research has confirmed that the quality of linen provided actually influences the choice of hotel, and that guests are prepared to pay more for quality. Bed linen plays a vital role in the impression a hotel makes on it guests and there is no doubt that laundry is an important function for hotels. Unfortunately however this service is not always given the priority and focus it deserves. Laundry quality shapes the guest’s impression, and laundry costs and laundry management impact a hotel’s bottom line and its operational efficiencies. Striking the correct balance between the two is crucial, and a pool linen service is a major factor in achieving this balance.

Efficiency driving the Green Agenda- quiet deliveries something to shout about!
In 2012 CLEAN Linen Services were appointed linen service provider to the London Olympics. In order to overcome the restrictions of daytime delivery slots during the Olympics, the company started early morning and late night deliveries. Peter Cox Group CLEAN Transport Manager stated “The company’s trail of night-time deliveries proved very beneficial; we found that the vehicles used less fuel because there was less traffic. They also benefited from easier parking and reduction in congestion charges” Natalie Chapman the Freight Transport Association head of policy for London supports Peter’s view “The benefits of night-time deliveries are proven and irresistible; why waste time and money sitting in traffic when you don’t need to?”

On Saturday 8th November CLEAN sponsored the Worshipful Company of Launderers’ float at the Lord Mayor’s Show. London streets were showered in bubbles to the delight of spectators, while the CLEAN team of chefs handed out bubble blowers to expectant children in the crowd. Manor Green School’s pupil and staff visit to CLEAN laundry service was a resounding success
As an innovative UK special needs school, Manor Green School (MGS) in conjunction with the borough’s award winning Ways into Work Service has introduced an extensive Job Coaching programme to develop the employment knowledge and skills for young people with learning difficulties. As part of this programme MGS School organises visits with local businesses.
