CLEAN has been shortlisted for the ‘Safety in Operation’ Award at the 2023 Motor Transport Awards.
The Safety of staff, customers and the general public has never been more critical. Although many anti-Covid measures are now business as usual, operators continue their strong focus on Safety to ensure that everyone goes home from work safely and well every day. The award recognises organisations that can demonstrate excellence in a company-wide safety culture or a specific safety-related initiative, with the winners set to be announced on 6 September at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
CLEAN Head of Transport Peter Cox said: “Safety is ingrained in everything we do, so to be nominated as finalists in the Safety in Operation category, in what is effectively the Oscars for the UK transport community, for a second year running is a huge achievement. At CLEAN, operating safely is not just a tick-box exercise; it remains our number one objective. We have significantly reduced accident rates by focusing on a “one way of working” strategy across the business that fully supports the site transport teams in their approach to road transport safety. Consistent messaging, training materials and methods, with regular communication, enable us to support the continued professional development of all our drivers fully. Introducing our 24/7 crisis response plan has raised awareness of driver vulnerability while driving for work and improved safety knowledge.
He went on to say: “Our delivery drivers are professionals and experts in their field. With a clear plan and our driver’s well-being at the forefront of this initiative, we have seen a positive response from our driving and transport teams. Our firm belief is that having a clear action plan to support driver well-being will make drivers and their families feel better supported, protected and valued.”
In their 37th year, the Motor Transport Awards have long been a benchmark for excellence among UK road transport fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers and innovators. It has remained a challenging business environment for transport teams throughout 2022 and 2023; just as the industry recovered from Covid-19, the Russian invasion of Ukraine sent shock waves through the UK economy, with energy prices and the cost of vehicles soaring. Driver wages saw a long overdue rise to make the profession more attractive. As ever, despite a combination of increasing costs, the threat of recession and the deadline to decarbonise looming on the horizon makes, transport and logistics departments have found a way to keep on delivering the goods for UK plc throughout the coronavirus pandemic and beyond. Recognising their excellence and rewarding the achievements of the people and companies going the extra mile is more important than ever.
CLEAN’s Motor Transport Awards shortlisting comes as it has just celebrated attaining RoSPA Fleet Safety Awards across several laundry sites, with Camberley and Slough picking up Gold Awards and Ross-on-Wye achieving a silver award at its first attempt.
