From thread count, to weave, here we demystify the top fourlinen myths.

Myth Buster – The Top Four Hotel Linen Myths - News - CLEAN Services

1. Egyptian cotton offers the highest quality linen

Egyptian cotton is regularly linked to luxury sheets, but usually the linen isn’t produced anywhere near the country. The key to the quality of cotton is the process of weaving long and short staple yarn together to produce a silkier fabric. This process isn’t solely used to create Egyptian cotton – the same quality linen can be bought from alternative sources.

2. There isn’t a choice of weaves

There are two main types of weaves for sheets: sateen and percale.

Percale is the simpler of the two and is created using the same number of warp and weft threads. This process provides a lighter, more durable sheet with a crisp finish.

Sateen is perceived as the luxury alternative to percale and offers a silky sheet with a light sheen to its appearance as it uses more warp threads than weft.

3. Good linen will last forever

Just like clothes, repeatedly washing and using linen will cause them to wear and become more vulnerable to rips and tears. For home bedding, experts recommend replacing linen and bed sets every 18-24 months, especially if they are being regularly washed. As we provide linen on a much larger scale and wash to the highest commercial standard, an average we replace linen and towelling after just 50 washes.

4.Sheets and towels can be washed together

This is a big misconception in the world of linen. To keep towels and sheets at the quality they were produced, it is vital they are washed separately. During a wash, towels can cause lots of friction, which wears sheets quicker if they are washed together. Also towels produce lint and this will layer across the sheets, meaning they will lose their softness.
