From Intent to Action - Our 2026 ESG Report

Posted on May 12, 2026

We are pleased to publish our second annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, covering our progress through 2025. This year's report offers a deeper, more honest account of where we stand, what we have achieved, and where we still need to focus.

From Intent to Action - Our 2026 ESG Report - News - CLEAN Services

For our customers, suppliers and teams, sustainability has moved from a topic of intent to a practical, day-to-day responsibility. The 2026 report is designed to support that shift by providing the data, context and transparency our partners need to make informed decisions within their own operations.

A more complete view of our emissions

One of the most significant developments this year is the improvement in our emissions data. In 2024, we captured 100 emission categories from eight suppliers. In 2025, that has grown to 150 categories across 83 suppliers, with new categories such as hotel stays, digital marketing and end-of-life product treatment included for the first time.

Our total reported emissions for 2025 stand at approximately 50,000 tCO₂e, an increase of around 30% on 2024. We want to be open about what this figure represents. It reflects better data quality and a wider Scope 3 boundary, rather than a deterioration in operational performance.

As Chris Bell, Director of Safety and Sustainability, explains:

"While this has resulted in higher reported emissions, it gives us far greater confidence that the footprint now more accurately reflects the true impact of our operations and value chain, and it significantly strengthens our ability to track progress year on year."

To stay aligned with the Paris Agreement's ambition of a 50% reduction by 2030, we will need to deliver an average annual reduction of around 6.7%, equivalent to approximately 3,300 tCO₂e.

Practical progress for our customers

Behind the headline figures sit operational improvements that directly support our customers' own sustainability targets and Scope 3 reporting.

Across our sites, water use per kilogram of product fell by 8.5%, gas use reduced by 3.4%, and kilometres driven per kilogram delivered improved by 22.2%. The rollout of the EPIC enzymatic detergent system, developed in partnership with Christeyns, has reduced water use by up to 48% at our Nottingham site, alongside meaningful reductions in chemical and wastewater volumes.

Our partnership with Avena has also enabled 25 tonnes of end-of-life textiles to be diverted from landfill through closed-loop recycling between July and December 2025, with a goal of reaching 250-300 tonnes annually. For customers managing branded workwear and linen, this provides both secure destruction and verifiable carbon-saving data they can include in their own reporting.

Looking ahead with our partners

Our planned investments for 2026 include a new state-of-the-art laundry in Nottingham, designed with rooftop solar, low-energy equipment, advanced water and energy recovery, and infrastructure ready for electric delivery vehicles and hydrogen co-firing boilers. Alongside this, we are expanding solar generation at our Camberley site, progressing the transition of our company car fleet to electric vehicles, and have successfully trialled Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as a cleaner alternative to conventional diesel in our HGVs.

As Kevin Godley, Chief Executive Officer, notes in his introduction:

"Sustainability is not a solo pursuit but a shared responsibility. That is why we strive to operate within a collaborative 'triangle' model, bringing together suppliers, customers and our own teams to create meaningful, long-term impact."

That commitment to working together shapes every section of the report. In September 2025, we welcomed key suppliers to our first Supplier Sustainability Day, focused on cutting CO₂ through shared ideas and joint projects. At each of our sites, ESG Champions are turning that same collaborative thinking into daily practice. We know our customers are under growing pressure to evidence progress on ESG disclosure, satisfy stakeholder expectations and improve operational efficiency. Our job is to make that work easier, providing the data, transparency and partnership they need to demonstrate real progress to their own customers and teams.

The full 2026 ESG Report is available to read on our website. We welcome conversations with customers and suppliers who would like to discuss how we can support their sustainability priorities in the year ahead.
